Knole DFAS

Knole DFAS was formed in 1986 to provide an additional Decorative and Fine Arts Society in the Sevenoaks area that met in the afternoons and to complement the existing society that was already meeting in the evenings (Sevenoaks DFAS).

Each year we choose a theme for our monthly lectures and approximately half of these relate to that theme.  For 2009-2010 the theme was ‘Victorian England’ and for our current season (2010-2011) it is ‘20th Century English Art’.  The remaining lectures are of general interest, designed to cover the full spectrum of the decorative and fine arts.

In addition to our monthly lecture meetings, we hold two study days a year in March and November and arrange a series of outings and visits to places of interest such as Hever Castle, Danson House, Wellington Arch and Apsley House to name but a few recent outings.  To celebrate NADFAS’ 40th Anniversary in 2008, Knole DFAS visited Charleston - the house made famous by the Bloomsbury group of artists - for an evening tour and celebratory supper.

Study tours to both UK destinations and abroad are arranged for members.  In June 2009 members toured ‘The Castles & Gardens of Aberdeenshire’ and, later in the year, travelled to Krakow in Poland.  In April 2010 we toured Cardiff and will visit Croatia in October.

Knole DFAS has an active group of Heritage Volunteers and Church Recorders.  We also support Young Arts projects in the area and have for the last two years given bursaries to deserving students moving on to further education.

We have a twinning arrangement with Mornington Peninsular ADFAS
which is located approximately 50 km from Melbourne, Australia.  We regularly exchange news and programme information. Denise Barrett visited Mornington Penisular ADFAS in March 2010.

We meet on the third Thursday of every month (except in July and August) at 12.30 pm when coffee and sandwiches are available. Lectures start promptly at 1.45 pm.

Venue:
Sevenoaks Community Centre,
Otford Road, Sevenoaks, TN14 5DN
